Online Gaming Addiction (OGA) is a condition in which a person spends a major part of their day in playing games online. The addiction is such that the person starts avoiding all other things that he/she is required to attend to, whether it is study, work, health, family, etc. A person affected by it will always think of playing games and will remain oblivious that he/she needs to do other activities and may feel angry or disturbed if not allowed to play. Though there is no official diagnosis of such an addiction but mental health experts have acknowledged it presence.
Some Highlights:
- OGA can occur to any individual irrespective of his age or occupation
- It is not to be confused with Gambling addiction as both are different
- Teenagers are likely to get most affected by OGA
- There are no specific reasons for this type of addiction. It might happen due to over indulgence in gaming for relief; a person may find it as an escape route from social and personal problems or some might get addicted because of fun that it brings.
- The bad effects of OGA are many such as neglecting one’s health, poor performance in work, problems in relationships, etc.
